October
27th, 1997 was a proud day for every one here at victory
Finishing Technologies as state an national political
figures gathered to announce the Common Sense Initiative
and recognize Victory as a leader in the metal finishing
industry. On hand were: Carol M. Browner, head of
the Environmental Protection Agency; U.S. Senator
John Chafee; U.S. Senator Jack Reed; Representative
Robert Weygand; and Representative Patrick Kennedy
and others from the metal finishing industry. The
even was covered by local and national media outlets.
The purpose of the press conference
was to announce an agreement between
the EPA and the metal finishing industry. The agreement,
known as the Metal Finishing Strategic Goals Program,
is based on the philosophy that environmental protection
and economic progress go hand-in-hand. Metal finishers
have committed to reducing pollution beyond what is
currently required by national environmental laws.
Victory was selected from a list
of metal finishers nationwide to host the press conference
because of its proactive and successful approach to
environmentally friendly finishing. Edward marandola,
president and owner of Victory, led interested participants
on a plant tour. Over the past ten years, Victory
has dramatically reduced its toxic chemical emissions.
The company has also worked closely with local environmental
groups like Save the Bay to promote environmental
cause.
According to Administrator Browner,
"Victory has set an ambitious course that we
hope other metal finishers will follow." Here
at Victory, we remain committed to our philosophy
that "finishing is only the beginning".
We will continue to provide the high quality finishing
services for which we are known while also protecting
the environment.
